The Kinexus Prime ultra+ rotational rheometer measures shear viscosity with a parallel plate design where the sample is loaded between the plates at a known gap. The rheometer works in controlled stress or controlled rate mode. The type of measuring system used and its dimensions depend on the sample type and its viscosity. A cone-plate measuring system is typically preferred since the shear rate is constant across the sample. A measuring system with a larger surface area such as a double gap concentric cylinder is used for measuring large particle suspensions, with low viscosity.

Capabilities/Accessories

Key Parameters:

  • Torque range: 0.5 nNm to 250 mNm
  • Normal force range: 0.001N to 50N
  • Angular velocity range: 1nrad/s to 500rad/s
  • Oscillation frequency range: 1µHz to 150Hz

Measuring Geometries:

  • Plate–Plate Geometry

Interchangeable lower plate pedestal with a 61 mm diameter. Suitable for optimized thermal properties, mechanical alignment, and release mechanism.

  • Cone–Plate Geometry

Upper measuring cone with 4° opening angle and 40 mm diameter.

A gemometry with 1° opening angle and 20 mm diameter.

The geometry is optimized with respect to compliance, inertia and thermal properties.

  • Concentric cylinder (Couette Geometry)

Double-gap cylindrical geometry (C25). The system comprises an upper double-gap bob (25 mm outer diameter) and a lower stainless-steel double-gap cup, suitable for low-viscosity and complex fluids.

  • Plate Peltier Temperature Control modules.

Plate-plate and cone–plate geometries are compatible with controlled measurements over a temperature range of –40 °C to 150 °C. The concentric cylinder is compatible with a range of -25 °C to 150 °C
